Lithium aspartate is used to treat hyperthyroidism, otherwise known as an overactive thyroid gland, or Graves Disease. This is an autoimmune condition, and is helped by low doses of lithium such as those provided by lithium aspartate that helps iodine to be distributed evenly throughout the body. It acts with Vitamin D to reduce the uptake of iodine by the thyroid, and in the absence of hyperthyroidism would normally cause hypothyroidism lead to insufficient thyroid hormone production.
However, in cases of hyperthyroidism, lithium aspartate regulates the activity of the thyroid gland back to normal by reducing its uptake of iodine. If allowed to go unchecked, hyperthyroidism can cause severe problems with the heart and the various metabolic functions of the body, including temperature regulation, sleep and mood.
As you can see, lithium is an important mineral for regulating the body’s thyroid hormone and improving mood. Look for lithium aspartate at your local or internet health food store in name brands like Solaray.
