In the medical context, a doctor is any medical professional with a doctoral degree. A doctor may be a physician, a psychologist, a dentist or a surgeon and may specialize in different fields like internal medicine, oncology, urology, emergency medicine and so on. A general practice doctor provides direct medical care to patients of all ages. The primary responsibility of a doctor is to make effective diagnosis and dispense appropriate treatment based on patient history and physical examination. Other important day-to-day duties include maintaining clear and accurate patient medical records, writing prescriptions correctly and clearly and informing patients about their diagnosis and treatment. It is the duty of a doctor to coordinate with other specialists to ensure that patients receive optimum quality care. To qualify for a doctor’s job, a candidate should possess a Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited medical school and proof of successful completion of National Board or other relevant exams. A current and valid state practice license and DEA certification is mandatory.
